Every year lakhs of students compete for seats in reputed engineering colleges like the Indian Institutes of Technology(IIT),  National Institutes of Technology(NIT), & other government and private colleges. The entry to these colleges is gained through the Joint Entrance Examination, popularly known as JEE, a national level engineering entrance exam usually held on the 1st or 2nd Sunday of January and April every year for the admission to different engineering courses. Performance in JEE is the main criteria for securing access to the NITs and other institutes, while it is the first stage exam for admission to the IITs. Every year, between 10 and 12 lakh students appear for the JEE Main examination.

JEE Main – Structure of Exam

Until 2011, it used to be called AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exam), and after that, it was rechristened as JEE Main. CBSE, New Delhi, conducts the exam. The JEE Main includes two papers: Paper I and Paper-II. Candidates may opt for either or both papers. Paper I is for admission to B.E. / B. Tech courses and is conducted online at the center.  Paper-II is for access to B. Arch and B. planning courses and is shown offline only. JEE Main (Paper 1) contains 3 sections, namely Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics, with 30 questions in each of these subjects. The paper’s duration is three hours & consists of 30 multiple choice questions with a single correct option in each of the three issues. There is a negative marking for each incorrect answer too. For one right answer, 4 marks are awarded, and for each wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted.

Preparation Tips for the JEE Main Examination:

There are only 30 questions in each subject in the paper; one needs to be conceptually strong and have a good understanding and clarity of the subject fundamentals to crack it. Candidates must remember that if they have excellent command over the concepts of the respective subjects, only then will they be able to apply the concepts at the time of entrance examinations. Hence, the candidates must focus on building ideas and master the application part in solving tricky numerical problems. If the students concentrate on building fundamentals, they will solve questions of all formats. The candidate must memorize the relevant topics and recall them at the examination. And for this, the candidate must maintain a healthy study timetable that provides enough room for self-study and revision.
